Climate change is a worldwide problem everyone is dealing with right now all around the world but only some people are actually doing something to reduce the effects of climate change on the planet. The most compelling fact climate change is a real thing and that it really exists is that most of the earth’s natural resource in the north known as the polar caps are melting which is causing the ocean level to rise. There is one big problem some people are dealing with right now is that they fail to see that climate change is a real problem. They mostly say what they cannot see does not exist. This theory that they keep holding on to will only make the situation worse until it’s too late to be fixed. So what can we do to make positive social change in these persons to influence them that climate change is real and needs to be fixed. There is only one thing that can reach mass people and change the way they live their lives and that is social media. Social media is where everything is at in this modern world. I truly believe that social media has the ability to influence those people who think climate change is not a problem by promoting mass movements all around the world which will force all those in opposition to be apart of something great that in fact, will be for future generation.
Duhigg’s and McKibben approach to Social Change
Duhigg’s approach to social change is a is one that has to deal with ties, that is strong ties and weak ties. The ties you hold can be very valuable to yourself in the future as they can help to get you out of certain situation when you need it. Social change is any significant alteration over time in behavior patterns and cultural values and norms. Duhigg’s observation about about social change is that when someone start a movement there will always be someone else to back that person up and hence the chain continues but McKibben thinks that we have move far away of that idea because in the past there was only one person as the representation of a major movement or even a small one for example Martin Luther King JR. McKibben’s idea of social change is that everyone deserve to be a leader in a a group that is, there should be no one person as the model for the movement instead everyone should have the ability to lead in their own way which is what modern society is like now. This is why modern protest have so much drive and is more effective than they use to because there isn’t one person doing leading an entire group but everyone moving more towards being their own role model
Kingsolver and McKibben path to social change
McKibben and Kingsolver main aim in everything they do is to create social change as relating to the global climate change. Mckibben is a social activist who make public speeches all across America and make movements on the matter concerning climate change and the oil industry. Kingsolver is an author who writes and the same idea concerning climate change. McKibben has spent most of his life trying to educate the public about what is happening to the atmosphere as we use more fuel and increase the fuel industry. One of his major claim he makes is that we have taken one of earth’s biggest natural resource and broken it. He has started movements to save the earth by holding conference meeting and give talks to large amount of audience to the point where he got arrested along with some other members of the protest group when president Obama signed the document that allowed the canadian company to install the long pipes across the United States. Kingsolver the author takes a more settle approach to achieving social change for the climate. Kingsolver writes her book so people can read it because she believes there’s still hope. She believes most people are having a hard time grasping that climate change is a real thing because we can’t see it with the naked eye. She does her part in conserving the environment by having her own little farm and eating from it.
Why is racism still a problem in the US
Racism is a real problem the United States is currently dealing with. Racism is something that didn’t just emerge one or two years ago but has been in our society centuries ago. It is still surprising that Racism is a real problem in modern society because this has been going on for a really long time and should not be a problem anymore. Races have been living together in communities for so long in peace without no war except that of hating each other. Do you know the saying that things such as family riches or family traits are passed down from generation to generation and it is the parents of the kids who teach them or the kids learn what they see. This is the same thing with racism. Kids see learn what they see their parents do and this is why Racism will never end. In order for some form of racism to get extinct it takes an entire generation to die out and this is how long it takes. I really hope racism dies out in the long future because it will be a better place where everyone can grow and have a positive mind set. However the rate we are moving now it doesn’t seem like that is ever going to happen.
Why should we care about social change
Social change is a very important part/ component of the society we live in today. It has change so many things, from the way we interact with each other to the way how we view certain things or even how we solve problem based on the situation at hand. Personally I think think social gave more positive impact on the things we do even though some people might disagree with the idea of social change. There are many people who depend on social change for a living that is they may be a sociology teacher or a scientist in the field studying the effects social change has on different persons. Recent studies have shown that Social change have a positive impacts on nature, social behavior, social relations and social institutions. furthermore , there is a sense in society that older people do not care much about the social change that is happening nowadays. They rather to be in the past just like in the old days where things were much simpler. It would be much easier to get out the positives of social change in society if everyone was apart of that movement rather than not trying at all because some people life revolve around sociology.
Duhigg’s blog response
Social Habits does not only change through weak ties that is; the friend of your friend but also through strong ties. During the Civil Rights movement, the basis of it was based on the links between weak ties and the effect that weak ties had on social habits. In Rick Warren’s journey to build his church and establish a place where people could grow closer to god, it was the complete opposite. People used their strong ties when going to church and in return would try to build their weak ties from the small groups the church provided them to pray with. In Rick’s view, “ The congregation and the small groups are like a one-two punch. You have this big crowd to remind you why you’re doing this in the first place and the small group of close friends to help you focus on how to be faithful.”(98)With the small groups people were able to not only keep in people in touch with their faith but also their weak ties. Even though most people did not know what was going on pertaining to why the would stand up for someone they know through a friend oe don’t know at all and the effect of strong and weak ties. It still worked out for the montgomery bus boycott situation. “ As we go back to the busses let us be loving enough to turn an enemy into a friend. We must now move from protest to reconciliation”(Martin Luther King JR 103). Through all the ties, societies social habits have changed so that the bus segregation could stop and everyone could ride the bus without discrimination.
The Power of Habits
Habits have been forming and transforming our society from the first day we started to incorporate them in our everyday behavior. This led to a Charles Duhigg a mexico native working as a reporter for the New York Times to realize that this thing we call Habits have influenced us to make some decisions in the past that have benefited the modern world. Charles Duhigg is the author of New York Times bestseller The Power of Habit. He points out that why we do what we do in life and business, a book exploring the genesis of habits, how they can be transformed , and how they contributed to the success of figures such as Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps and civil rights leader Martin Luther King. During the reading, the habits of man, he stated that “In adult life, it’s how business gets done and communities self organize,” at first I couldn’t understand exactly what it meant but after reading through the entire article and learning about weak ties which are people you may know through another friend and how it affected the Civil Rights movement when Rosa Parks refused to give her seat up and stand in the bus. This sparked a sense of identity in the entire community to the point where people who did not even know Rosa Parks were forced to stand up for her during this time in history. That is connected to how business gets done when you are in the adult world; by forcing people out of their comfort zone to stand up for what they wanted.
blog 4 HIV RESPOND
The LGBTQ community has been in the shadows for some time and is just finding their way out of the closet just recently. When the AIDS epidemic first came out it was connected with the LGBTQ community that is; only gay men have have or carried AIDS. This created a stigma between groups and also made it harder for these people to express themselves. Even until this day they find it hard because society has created norms that distinguished them based on what their sexual orientation is. This has also lead to even more outbreak in the past because people were scared that they would be considered apart of this community even when they are not which would threaten the health of the entire population as it would continue to spread.Thirty percent of the suicide each year is from LGBTQ community and this does not help to cope with the situation at hand. Having HIV or AIDS should not be associated with the LGBTQ community and should be something that everyone is knowledgeable about. A good way to to deal with this problem is educate the younger generation about all the aspects of having HIV or AIDS and in return we’ll have a better society that is more understandable.
Blog 3 Unheard Stories
The unheard stories of LGBTQ Teens is a hard topic to deal with because there is so much question around it. Based on the stories I heard, it is a natural that some teenagers go through. It is extremely hard for some of them to cope with all the changes they’re going through. Most of them find it so hard to the extent where they fear losing their families and friends. Most of the kids interviewed we’re out of the closet and they also had a hard time being true to themselves, families and friends.Over the years and based on evidence, LGBTQ kids are the ones who committed the most suicide. Anne Hallward is definitely promoting social cohesion which is the tendency of people to talk openly with one another and form trusted relationship. This is the main objective Hallward is heading towards. Based on the interviews, this method of trusting the people who you want to share your secret to has worked for most and have made their bond even more stronger.Just talking to your love ones about your situation and hoping they will try their best to be with you because it’s a natural thing is assurance enough. Talking about it keeps depression that can later lead to suicide out of the picture which is a great progress towards the LGBTQ community. Hallward is doing this in order to make others feel safe if they find themself in the same situation where they will know that it is not only them but there are other people going through the same thing like they are and there’s help for them if they want it.

Hallward Ted talk has been so inspiring in many ways. She has expressed herself in so many different ways and on so many levels no one been able to or even if they have not been as successful as her. Hallward really stood out to me when she made her point about not having that experience in her family where they wouldn’t talk about puberty. This kind of environment made it awkward because you are going through all these different things such as mixed emotions and no matter how much you try to make it obvious how much you want to talk about it or how much you’re willing to take the time to be weird as your family would consider it. Nonetheless, they would just treat it like a topic to be kept secret or swept under the rug. Her experience is similar to others that I have seen and they also stand out ot me. Many movies were exactly like what she explained where people would consider trying to end their relative lives rather than prolong it in a devastating and painful cycle. I can relate to this because I was once in that situation where my family had to decide weather to continue our relative life. In the end they didn’t decide but there’s this conspiracy that someone secretly signed documents with a doctor to give consent to end her life and say she passed away naturally. Just hearing her say that in her ted talk just brought back that memory and I know from personal experience what she went through and how hard of a decision it was to make. Hallward suggested “ Shame is at the heart of depression” which is totally true because in shame is guilt for the wrong you have done and this can come back to haunt you.
